Fort Gordon Housing - Responsible for the construction of a 187,933 SF, 600-person, 5-story combined Barracks-Company Operations Facility (BCOF) sized 800-person dining facility (DFAC) for two Advanced Individual Training (AIT) companies. The barracks are heated and cooled by a ground source heat transfer system integrated into the mechanical room and built on the same site as the barracks complex.

The barracks are constructed of load-bearing precast structural panels with long, clear precast twin tees. Once placed, the topping slab is poured over the double T to finish the floor level. All the architectural elements—brick veneer, color and pattern—are cast with panels in the fabrication shop. QC efforts are concentrated at the manufacturing facility during successful panel production without rejecting a single panel on site.

Fort Gordon Housing

This is not only because it can cause serious health risks to the family now, but because it can have a huge impact in the future.

Caroleton In Grovetown, Ga

For over 11 years now, the I-TEAM has been finding things like mold, electrical and gas problems, pest problems, all of these parts of Fort Gordon heritage homes, which is a good way to call them vintage.

But now we find that the picture is expanding to include Fort Gordon's newest neighborhood, which means Balfour Beatty Communities — the manager of privatized family housing in Fort Gordon — may no longer be able to blame new problems on old buildings.

He swore to fight for his country, but on April 26, he swore again before fighting for his daughter.

Now stationed halfway around the world, he flew 7,000 miles to testify on Capitol Hill before a permanent Senate subcommittee investigating his family's experience living on post at Fort Gordon.

He talked about his daughter, and the health problems he blamed on mold in the house they lived in at Fort Gordon.

"His feelings, his sense of worth, who he is, has changed forever. ... His skin, once young and soft, is now reptilian," he testified to the senator.

The I-TEAM checked and found that Lakeview Terrace is home to Fort Gordon's newest and supposedly nicest home — a neighborhood reserved for the families of senior officers and soldiers.

Around the same time Cho testified on Capitol Hill, on April 26, Liz Riley told the I-TEAM she developed a rash that same day.

Update: Crews Demolish Unfit Housing For Fort Gordon Service Members

"(I) can't wash my son. He can barely pick him up and change his diaper. It's like I can't do anything," she said.

He said he changed his diet, detergent, everything to get rid of the reptilian spots. But nothing worked.

He wanted to read the report of the Standing Sub-Committee of Inquiry issued on the day of the hearing.

At the time, it was a few weeks old, but when Liz found Cho's story and saw a picture of her daughter's scar, she could hardly believe it.

Overlook At Liberty Square

"It looked exactly like my hand. It looked like a reptile, you know, he had all these eczema outbreaks, and it was coming out of his body. He woke up on his own, and he was bleeding," she said.

That's as Choi testified about her daughter waking up at night "from her scratches while sleeping, even her bed sheet covered in her own blood. ... She looked like the worst burn victim."

"I wake up at night, scratching my hands because they're so angry. I can't sleep, and if I sleep, it wakes me up," he said.

"I couldn't finish my dinner. I got up, I started taking pictures off the wall, you know, I was scared. I was like, 'I can't stay here because I feel like I'm having it,'" she said.

Fort Gordon Signs A Deal For Additional Housing Options

Three families are now paying out of pocket to stay in a hotel while another family stays there.

Another mother asked that we not use her name, but said her son was also sick.

"It's been doctor visits, it's been inhalers, it's been asthma attacks, it's been skin problems, it's been repeat allergy shots for two more years when we're done," he said.

We met this mother on a windy day in May when Sen. Jon Ossoff—chairman of the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations—returned to Fort Gordon for the first time since presiding over the hearings in DC.

After the military opened its own investigation into Balfour Beatty at Fort Gordon, Ossoff called on the defense secretary to expand it, but Secretary Lloyd Austin has yet to respond.

After more than a year of delays, the garrison commander said work should begin next month on Pine Tree Terrace, a brand new neighborhood with new homes in Fort Gordon.

With 75 percent of the homes on post considered "heritage" or old, Col. Shaw Peek told the I-TEAM the project is important.

"These houses will not be easy to repair," he said. "We need to put new construction on that land."
